hey mellagroove...some questions to be answered for yourself then it will be easier to help.
1. How much do you have to spend on the marker and the accessories? 2. Do you play more in the woods(woodsball) or do you prefer fasterpaced games(speedball)? 3. Do you plan to ever upgrade or do you want this gun to be your gun for a long time?
With those questions i might be able to help narrow your choices... but alot of gun choice is personal preference. I would recommend going to the Blast Camp store and some other local stores and holding a few guns and learning about their features.

ok pro....
...ive been to blastcamp once...and a speedball field once....i like them both....and probably will be splitting time equally between both types....im really looking to stay in the vacinity of $300, but if quality is not achievable at that range then i will exceed.....and as far as longevity....i would expect to keep the gun as long as it last...but willing to add other guns to my arsenal

I'd say you need a mid-low range electro... In saying that i would look at guns like the Ion, Promaster, and Evil Omen. You'll need a descent hopper though. No hopper slower than a Evo II will work. You also need a nitro tank. Take a look at some sites and learn about some gunz... www.pbreview.com -- They'll have ratings and places to buy all the equipement you will ever need. www.paintballdicounters.com -- One of my favorite places to buy my equipement www.paintballgear.com -- A local favorite for ordering stuff. Also to get hands on gunz and other equipement go to warped Sportz in Merriville ( Not Bad Boyz Toyz), or Blast Camp in Hobart. You could also go to the field and ask about getting a good used gun. Like I said earlier...it is what feels best to you. Personally I shoot and 06' promaster, Vlocity loader, 16" freak barrel, and a not so impressive 48/3000 N2 tank. I love my gun but some hate it.

The angel one is a great marker, ive had 5 angels over the years, but id have to say that the dm series, or any spool valve for that matter, is a little more superior to the age old design of the angels.

a Custom Pro-E with a cyclone will be a lil bit cheaper, and you can build it up as you go

Yea but for the price of an electro tippy or pro-e, your well into the 300 range where you can buy brand new ions now for 200 and they are a spool type valve which means it will have almost no kick compared to an a-5 or pro-e of that sort and ions are so easy to upgrade. You can stick with a stock ion or upgrade them cheaply to ahieve into the 30 BPS range, I've seen them myself.

Well, once you figure in the compressed air system and electronic loader, and a replacement for the god awful feedneck, youre still in the $350 price range, it really depends on what he wants to spend
